I am interested in the history of social justice movements, with a focus on struggles for women's equality and sexual freedom. My research has looked at the legal regulation of sexual "morality," dealing with topics such as prostitution and sodomy, and the fight to overturn such laws. My current project examines efforts by missionary women to end Chinese prostitution in San Francisco between the years of 1870 and 1920.
