Hi there. I’m Zach, and I have a keen interest in connecting the (political) practice of public history to human rights work. Mostly, I do this through sites of conscience—or historic sites that highlight “past struggles to address contemporary issues”—and recognize how such sites serve as cultural tools for memory making, transmission, and telling; and also how the historic activism happening at these sites seek to influence advocacy and policy. My public history experience has strong roots in Chile, a post-conflict society where I have worked closely with two grassroots initiatives aimed at memorializing former sites of detention, torture, and terror. I will be beginning a special projects position at the International Coalitions of Sites of Conscience in the fall.
