My research investigates 20th century ethnic formation as it relates to the Ladino. From the perspective of elites the Ladino represents a civilized Maya. I therefore study the civilizing process in both its subtle and overt forms. Furthermore, film production is an integral part of my research, as is evidenced by my documentary which follows the Nueva Linda Evangelical Ladino community and their encounter with the Guatemalan police and military.
