Graduate Students Win National Fellowships and Awards
History students receive Fulbrights, Mellon Fellowships, Rockefeller Foundation fellowships, and more.Dissertation Research Fellowships in 2010 -- Some Highlights
Megan Barber has been offered two year-long research fellowships: the CLIR Mellon Fellowship and the Fulbright fellowship. Her project is: "Students in the Streets: The Politics of Protest in Vichy France." Megan has also won a Bernadotte Schmitt research grant from the American Historical Association.
Jill Briggs (History of Science) has received a Rockefeller Foundation grant and will be going to New York this summer for her dissertation research.
Jessica Elliott has been offered a Fulbright fellowship for research in France for 2010-11. Jessica has also been offered a Bourse Chateaubriand, a year-long international fellowship sponsored by the Embassy of France in the United States. Jessica's dissertation examines the integration of converted Jews into Christian society in thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Paris.
Colleen Ho has been awarded a Fulbright fellowship for research in Italy in 2010-2011. Colleen will be researching her dissertation on the Mongols in medieval European culture.
Nicole Pacino has been awarded a Fulbright-Hays fellowship for research in Bolivia. Nicole's dissertation,"Prescription for a Nation: Public Health in Post-Revolutionary Bolivia, 1952-1964," examines changes and continuities in public health programs after the Bolivian National Revolution in 1952. Nicole also won a Bancroft Library Study Award to conduct research at the Bancroft Library in Berkeley.
Jean Smith won an Institute of Historical Research Mellon Pre-dissertation Grant, which will defray the costs of her research in London this summer. Her dissertation is titled ""We Seek New Settlers of British Stock": The Politics of British Migration to Southern Africa, 1939-1965.' Jean has also won a Bernadotte Schmitt research grant from the American Historical Association.
Tara Tubb has been awarded an Albert and Elaine Borchard European Studies Fellowship for the 2010-11 academic year for research on her dissertation "Mastering the Stasi Past: State and Societal Approaches to Working through the East German Past in United Germany."
