Beverly Schwartzberg, Secretary (read bio)
The grateful recipient of fellowships from History Associates, the History Department, and UCSB's Graduate Division, Bev Schwartzberg received a Ph.D. in public historical studies in 2001 and was a UC Kevin Starr Fellow in 2000-01. Her dissertation, "Grass Widows, Barbarians, and Bigamists: Fluid Marriage in Late Nineteenth-Century America," won the national competition sponsored by the Council of Graduate Schools for best dissertation in the humanities. She has worked in a number of museums as a grant writer and historian and has taught history on the high school, community college, and university level. Since 2003 she has coordinated the adult literacy program for the Santa Barbara Public Library System.
