This new course will provide an introduction to the emerging field of
marine environmental history, which explores how people have
experienced, understood, and transformed the world’s oceans over time.
The course will touch upon a wide variety of themes, including
science, technology, politics, economics, law, and culture. Topics
will range from fisheries to films, and from mythology to oil wells.
Throughout the course, we will reflect on how a better of knowledge of
history can improve marine science and policy.
