Jill Jensen and Nelson Lichtenstein Explore a Century of Working Life Along the Pacific Rim

ILO BookThe explosive rise of East Asia and the continuing importance of Latin America have shifted the center of world manufacturing from the North Atlantic to the nations of the Pacific Rim. In The ILO from Geneva to the Pacific Rim: West Meets East (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2015), Jill Jensen, who took her 2011 Ph.D. in History at UCSB, and Professor Nelson Lichtenstein have edited twelve original essays that explore how the International Labor Organization has helped generate a set of programs, practices, and ideologies that have sought to advance working class living standards and reform industrial regimes in this vast region. The book had its origins in a 2011 UCSB conference sponsored by the ILO and the Center for the Study of Work, Labor, and Democracy.
