UCSB Historians win campus-wide teaching prizes.

Prof. Pat Cohen named outstanding graduate mentor; Laurence Christian selected as outstanding teaching assistant.

Two History Department members have won campus-wide outstanding teaching awards for 2008-2009.

Professor Patricia Cohen won the Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award. Professor Cohen is the third historian to win this award since it was created four years ago. Professor (now Emeritus) Hal Drake won the award in 2007, and Professor Paul Spickard in 2008.

Graduate student Laurence Christian won an Academic Senate Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Laurence is the twelfth History graduate student to win this award in the past eleven years.

Announcement for 2008-2009 Award Recipients
The announcements for this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Teaching Award, the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award, and the Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award will be made on April 23, 2009 at the Faculty Legislature meeting. There will be a reception at 3:00pm in the UCen Lobero Room immediately preceding the Faculty Legislature meeting at 3:30pm. All are welcome to join us in honoring this year’s award recipients.
